Old Man Grieving Always on the lookout for striking visual references, I found this particular visage in a book on Japanese Buddhist sculpture. The sculpture itself was full-bodied and in-the-round, but it was the head, the facial expression which caught my eye. So knowing and sad, the face made me think of the writer of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament. I did the picture using gray pastel on black mi-tiente, working out the form with my fingertips, carving the features with an eraser. |
