The Water Seller Variation A sanguine Conté crayon study of Velasquez’ famous painting. I believe the water seller’s face is one of the most striking profiles in all art, and couldn’t resist the challenge of reproducing it using my medium of choice. I got the idea from studying a book, Susan Grace Galassi’s Picasso’s Variations on the Masters. I’m no Picasso but immediately, instinctively understood his motivations. |
